Baptist Haiti Mission
August 31-September 6/15, James Borody traveled to Baptist Haiti Mission in Fermate, Haiti. James was there to clean and repair the lab's present chemistry analyzer so they can use up their large supply of reagents. He also had the opportunity to train the staff on their new chemistry analyzer that had been installed a few months ago. The 2 techs that he trained will now train the rest of the staff on this new instrument.
This trip was postponed twice and shortened by weather-related issues, but they were happy to finally get their needed repairs and training.
Children's Hope, Jacmel Haiti
September 8-14/15, Ed Bos traveled to Children's Hope in Jacmel, Haiti.
Here is an excerpt from a blog post written about Ed's visit:
From Idea to Reality!
"...The purpose of the trip is pretty awesome. After the trip in February, Greg and I started praying about building a modern medical lab in the new clinic they were setting up. I ordered Greg a book about doing medical missions in developing nations and the author emailed Greg to tell him he was out of the country at a convention in Thailand, but would have a friend ship the book ASAP. I pressed Greg to ask him what he knew about setting up a lab somewhere with limited resources. He said the guy Greg needed to talk to was right there at the conference with him. So Greg got in touch with him and we got the ball rolling.
Meanwhile, equipment had to be gathered and the rooms for the lab in Haiti had to be finished out to very precise specifications. When we needed electrical work done, an electrician “happened” to be there with a team. When construction needed to be done, a construction team “happened” to be there. Several pieces of lab equipment were donated through unique circumstances, people in the right place at the right time… So here we are, seven months later, and the lab equipment is being installed next week! It’s like Christmas! The guy (Ed Bos) from that convention in Thailand is meeting Greg there to set everything up and train a lab tech and nurse on staff there. It’s just amazing how the Lord has pulled all of this together...(update) ...Greg and Ed Bos (from World Wide Lab) have returned from Haiti. The lab has been set up and our Haitian lab tech and Maria Peters have been trained. We now have a fully functional American lab at the medical/dental clinic at CH. We are thrilled! We are so thankful to Greg for staying with this project, for Leah Hawthorne who made sure Ed’s specifications for the lab were met, and for Ed and his ministry."
Mission of Hope
September 26 - October 2/15 James Borody made a trip to Mission of Hope in Titanyen, Haiti.
This was James' 3rd time to Mission of Hope. The lab staff is all new, and were not familiar with their current instrumentation, so James was able to train the 2 lab techs and the biomed tech on analyzers that WWLAB installed there in 2011.
Mission of Hope plans to update their chemistry analyzer in 2016, so James is looking forward to returning to Titanyen do the installation and training.
